PERFORMING MUSIC and DRAMA SINCE 1898

Welcome to Maidstone Amateur Operatic Society, a company which has been producing musicals and operettas since 1898.
Maidstone Operatic performs its sell-out shows at the Hazlitt Theatre, an intimate and well-equipped venue at the very heart of Maidstone. Members also take part in concerts usually performed for worthy causes. These concerts give us much fun and raise considerable sums for local charities.
Please use this website to find out all about us.
We will be producing the Mel Brooks musical THE PRODUCERS at the Hazlitt Theatre, Maidstone from Monday 11 March to Saturday 16 March 2013 (including a Saturday matinée).
More information is available here and will be updated frequently.
114 years of music making - perhaps even longer as, although we produced our first musical show ‘Mikado’ in 1898, there is evidence suggesting that we had been performing sacred and solemn works since 1862.
In our early days Gilbert and Sullivan shows were performed, sometimes singers came from the D’Oyly Carte Opera in London to take part. As time went on popular costume shows alternated with the ever popular G & S.
Now the Society tends to perform modern musicals. We use the Hazlitt Theatre, Maidstone. This is an ideal venue seating some 360 people, which allows us to perform to full houses for the week of the show.
